《欧美文化概论》前身为《欧洲文化》、《美国文化》、《英美概况》，自建院以来即有此文化类课程；2000年以后，课程体系逐渐完善成熟，向规模化发展。近五年，《欧洲文化》和《美国文化》两门公共课的本科生选课人数达到1400名，专业课的选课人数也达500余人。2007年，在此两课的基础上，新建《英美概况》一课，一年之后，由于英语专业建设的需要，经校内外专家多次论证，三课正式合并，定名为《欧美文化概论》，分两个学期讲授，现为英语专业及商务英语专业的必修基础课；同时，该课程作为公共选修课也对全校其他专业的本科生开放。
