1. Reading Tests

Students are supposed to do 6-8 period Reading Tests. The average score of the tests will account for 10% of the total term grades. Deduction for absence from class shall be made from this proportion of the score.

2. Case Discussion

One case drawn from the case pool will be discussed by every group with 5-6 students. Students are required to read case materials and hold a group discussion, preparing ppt slides before they answer the attached questions in class. They are also supposed to hand in the file of slides at the end of the class, as well as the written analysis reports within 4 hours after the class. A judge committee consisting of students and the instructor will evaluate the work of each group and select the best five to present their work. Of the groups not chosen to make presentation, the members are expected to make comments or raise questions to challenge the presenters. The lecturer will then provide feedback to each group to help students improve their skills of analysis and communication. Case discussion performance will be evaluated by the following criteria:

3. Marketing Solutions to a Company Problem

Each group is also expected to select a company problem to which they would try to find solutions. As long as it¨s interesting to group members, the topic (problem) could be related to product design, brand strategy, promotion plan, channel management, and so on. The purpose of this project is to encourage students to apply what they¨ve learnt in this course to solving a real marketing problem. Topics have to be fixed by Week 10 and the solutions found and written up by Week 15. Four groups will be selected by the evaluation committee as the best to present their work in class in Week 17. The group work will be evaluated by the following criteria.

4. Final Examination

The final examination will largely be an objective test of the students¨ command of the principles and applying skills acquired during the semester. The results of the exam will account for 60% of their total term grades.
